The Bulgarian Society for British Studies, founded in 1990, has the aim
to advance English Language Teaching/ Learning in the country by
promoting the study English – issues of language, literature, culture,
EFL policy and translation practice. BSBS is an associated member of
the European Society for the Study of English (ESSE). In furtherance of

- holds an annual international conference for
researchers working in field of English Language/ Literature/ Culture
and Applied Linguistics.
- supports a national information network aiming to
facilitate communication, exchange of experience and resources among
Bulgarian academics, researchers and all others interested in the
subjects of English Studies.
- provides information – on its website
(http://writingacademia.org/bsbs) on various matters related to British
studies, e.g. publications, research projects, national and
international conferences
- fosters research-networks on specialist topics aimed at
facilitating intellectual cooperation among educationalists,
scholars and writers on a national and international level.
- promotes faculty and student exchanges under
international cooperation programmes, especially those of the European
Union.
- organizes bimonthly meetings for BSBS members for
discussion of topics related to the society’s subject of
interest, launches of books authored by BSBS members or exchange
of other useful information.
BSBS is governed by an Executive Board, consisting of Chair, Deputy
Chair, Treasurer and five members, elected for two years. Currently,
the society is chaired by Associate Professor, Dr Maria Georgieva.
